We want to always honour and remember Clare, who we loved so much. We wish everyday that Clare was still here with us and wish that we could also turn back time and be together again. We did not fully realise that life could be so short and those we love so much could be taken from us so soon. Of course we remain sad and heartbroken and life for our family will never be as happy again, as we have lost such a precious person in Clare. However we also remain deeply grateful for Clare and for her life, which brought so much love, happiness and laughter to so many people. Clare was the type of person that cared about other people, she donated to charities like Crisis at Christmas and she did her best to support the disadvantaged, including standing up to injustice. Clare always tried to be a kind and good neighbour to others, and I recall a time where she gave a £20 note to a complete stranger because they were in need of money. Clare was that type of person - she offered help to others despite being so busy herself including looking after a young family. Although we miss Clare so much everyday, each and every time we remember her we always smile, as we have so many good and happy memories. Those memories sustain us through the heartbreak of being separated from our beloved Clare. We also hope that one day we will see Clare again in heaven, when we are reunited with those we love. We sometimes think that Clare is praying for all her family and friends, from the heavenly realm and particularly for Katie and Maddie who she loved with all her heart and never wanted to be separated from. That love is an everlasting love and nothing will ever change that and Clare will always be watching over her beloved girls until one day they can meet again in heaven. So Clare has gone ahead of us to a place that God has prepared for her and hopefully we will meet her again. Wisdom 3:1-3 Everything, including the souls of those who have passed, are in God’s hand. ‘The souls of the just are in the hand of God and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace.’ Wisdom 4:7-10 ‘The virtuous man, though he die before his time, will find rest. Length of days is not what makes age honourable, nor number of years the true measure of life; understanding, this is man’s grey hairs, untarnished life, this is ripe old age. He has sought to please God, so God has loved him.’ John 11:25-6 Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.’ John 14:1-3 ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.’ 1 Corinthians 15:50-3 What I am saying, brothers and sisters, is this: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable body must put on imperishability and this mortal body must put on immortality. Rabindranath Tagore ‘Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.’

Thoughts

We were so blessed to know Clare and to have her in our family and in our lives. Clare was full of life, happiness and laughter and was like a bright, shining star. We loved Clare very much and we miss her so deeply every day but are also very thankful for her life. God abides in hearts that are just and true. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Clare was one of the brightest characters I have ever met. A bold, mischievous, brave soul who regularly reduced a classroom of girls to giggles. She and Nay were inseparable throughout our time at Challoners and although I left there at 16 and sadly lost touch with so many of my peers, it was wonderful to make contact again in recent years and to see those bonds had been maintained and were stronger than ever. Seeing Clare’s beaming face as she larked around with Nay, holding her twins or with her husband was joyous. She will be much missed by many, but leaves memories filled with laughter and light. Condolences to her loved ones. Karen Kay (nee Mellor)
